On Monday 26thJune 2017 all Year 12 pupils will be involved in a UCAS/Careers day. This will be an opportunity for pupils to speak with University Admissions officers and gain an initial insight into the university courses available to them and the application process they will need to follow. It will also be an opportunity for those pupils who are looking at alternative pathways to gain valuable information about apprenticeships, CV writing and employment opportunities.
Some of the organisations that will be represented on this day are:
- Cardiff University
- Aberystwyth University
- University of South Wales
- Cardiff Metropolitan University
- Careers Wales
- Various local employers
The event will run from 9am until 1.15pm, with an opportunity for UCAS applicants to start their online registration process in a computer suite after lunch. School uniform must be worn.

“Today we visit @AberUni to introduce Year 12 pupils to the Individual Project as part of their Welsh Bacc qualification”
It is with great pride that we announce that Nathan Keeble is a Silver Award winner in the Pearson Outstanding Young Teacher of the Year category. This means that he is part of a shortlist of 5-6 teachers nationally who now qualify for the Gold Awards to be announced in a special ceremony in London in October. There were literally thousands of initial nominees so this is really is a tremendous achievement; a proud day for the school, the History dept and, of course, for Nathan himself.
Nathan Keeble joined Aberdare Community School in September 2015 as a Newly Qualified Teacher. Since his appointment Nathan has proved himself to be a truly inspirational teacher. Every once in a while a teacher is appointed whose ability, natural talent, commitment and enthusiasm remind you that great teachers change lives. Nathan really is a great teacher and we are privileged to have him as a member of our team in Aberdare Community School.
In a relatively short period of time, Nathan has really made his mark here in Aberdare. His consistent innovative and excellent teaching methods have produced outstanding results at both GCSE and A Level. Pupils love going to his lessons. Nathan understands how to engage all pupils and inspire them to learn.
In addition to his work in the History Department, Nathan has also taken on the role of developing our School Council. His inspirational leadership of this group of learners has ensured that pupils’ views are heard both within school and through the RCT Youth Forum.
We are delighted that Nathan’s work is being recognised in this national silver award and we wish him luck as he goes forward to the gold category in London in October.
We also recommend sending your children to school with sunscreen applied and a bottle of water, which they are able to top up using our numerous cold-water fountains, to ensure they keep hydrated and cool.
