Health and Well-being

Here at Aberdare Community School we believe in the principles of equality, dignity, respect, non-discrimination and participation and because of this we are working towards becoming a Rights Respecting School.

So what is a Rights Respecting school? A Rights Respecting School is ‘a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.’ (UNICEF)

Working closely with UNICEF the school will be embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child into everyday school life and will work towards ensuring that the convention will be at the heart of the schools ethos and culture to improve well-being and strive to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.

Over the coming months, both pupils and staff will be looking at how the school can link the Rights of the Child to everything we do here at Aberdare Community School. This will be developed in a number of ways and our pupils will slowly learn that everything we do is linked to the UNCRC.

More information will be distributed through assemblies, parent’s evenings and through the schools social media sites to ensure that everyone is aware of the Rights available to children and that our school community is familiar with what we are trying to achieve.
